{That's all freedom illusion}

One of my all time favorite movies is "Brokedown Palace". It stars Claire Danes (Darlene Davis) and Kate Bekinsale (Alice Marano). Here is a synopsis of the movie:

Alice and Darlene, best friends, decide to take a trip to Thailand to celebrate high-school graduation. While there, they are befriended by charming Australian rogue Nick Parks. Nick convinces them to take a weekend side trip to Hong Kong, but at the airport, they are busted for smuggling drugs. They are convicted in a show trial and sentenced to 33 years; in desperation, they contact Yankee Hank, an American lawyer based in Thailand who has been reported to be helpful if you've got the cash.

Alice and Darlene, friends since birth, have just finished high school. They are planning a summer vacation in Hawaii, but they hear Bangkok is even better. They leave... without telling their parents about the change in plans. Bangkok's fun, but they're not crazy about their $6 accommodation. They try for a swim at a luxury hotel, but then there's some trouble when it's time to pay for their drinks. They're rescued by a roving software consultant, Nick Parks, an Australian. Nick's a good guy, although he can't decide which girl he's after. He tells the pair that Hong Kong is great, and he's willing to exchange his first class plane ticket for three economy... The girls rush to catch their flight out. At the airport police arrive suddenly. The girls have heroin in their backpack... Darlene's father has no luck freeing the girls from prison, even when he looks for help from the local DEA agents. But there's a sleazy lawyer, Hank Green, who may be able to do something,
for a price...

How far would you go to save your friends life?

Darlene and Alice face a future in a horrible prison in Thailand with little doubt they will ever be freed. Hank Green, the sleazy layer does his best to free them, but sadly, he was not able to free both of them. The government of Taiwan offered them a pardon but to only one of the girls...Alice who took the blame for the smuggling of the drugs. She says, "I did it, I take the blame", free Darlene! Then to everyone's suprise, the court room Darlene speaks out and says, "no, I will take the blame if you free Alice, please! I did it, Alice is innocent". They pardoned Alice while Darlene was sentenced to a life in a one of the worst prisons for woman in Thailand! Darlene gave up her life to save her best friends life! She sacrificed her freedom and gave up "her life" for her friend! This is true sacrifice. I couldn't imagine being put in this situation.

So again, I ask, how far would you go to safe a friends life?
